Today I’m showing my new hotspot in my own hometown “una Volta“. Which if you translate it: Once upon a time. I think that is really cool. Last Sunday I went their with my old classmate and very good friend Mannie and her boyfriend. una Volta opened last April – but I heard so many good reviews from my friends so I really needed to pay a visit.
In case you didn’t know where my hometown is, it’s nearby Utrecht. This café/restaurant is located in Culemborg. A small town but I live here my whole life. So if you are shopping in Utrecht take the train to Culemborg and visit this new hotspot in town. Anyways some information about una Volta: I told you the translation of the name – which is also the start of every fairy tail but also a refer to this beautiful place with a lot of historie.
LOCATION AND INTERIOR
Let’s talk about the location and interior. The location is very practical – especially if you are traveling by train cause within a 2 minute walk you are at the location. What I really like is the industrial feeling of the interior, I love the unfinished walles and the different chairs. But also in the open kitchen they have some copper lamps and it matches perfectly with the old building.
FOOD AND MENU:
They serve some Italian dishes. Think about some delicious pasta’s or some pizza’s. Their pizza’s are baked in the wooden fired pizza oven, which is really their show piece. As a started I ordered carpaccio and my friends a salad with shrimps and a Bresaola.
For the main course I had a delicious carbonara pasta it was prepared with fresh ingredients. My friends ordered both Tenderloin with sauce and some vegetables and fries. From their opinion it was also really really good. My pasta was really delicious and it was a large portion.
For dessert I had a Panna Cotta is also an Italian dessert of sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and molded and on top some cherries. I really can recommend this dessert. I was so delicious.
When it’s dry outside and the lovely is really nice you can sit outside on their terrace. It’s really close to the station so the down side is – while you are talking with each other you have to wait like every 15 minutes cause a train is passing by.
All in all I really like una Volta and it’s really one of my favorite hotspots in my own hometown. And can’t wait to have diner in the next few months or maybe a lunch.
